Hi! My ds Owen will get his DOCBand on May 26th. We are very anxious b/c he sweats a lot. I wonder how uncomfortable he will get in it. He has plagio and tort and we hope the band will help with the flat spot and to even out some facial asymmetry.
I'm excited about this board.

Hello and welcome. As you probably already know, our Alexandra, wore her STARband for almost 6 months and had unbelievable results. WE could not be happier. Thankfully she got to wear here helmet in the winter time. There will be some rough times with the heat, but you and Owen will get through it. Before you know it, he will get more upset when you take it off then when it is on. Please continue to post. The more we can discuss these issues, the more we can assist other families down the road. Is Owen getting PT for his torticollis? Is it in home or at an office? Where are you from? Thanks for the post.

Hi! My son, Nicholas Isaac, will be 7 months old on May 29th. He will be getting his helmet on June 8th. He, too, has torticollis and plagiocephaly. He receives EI services. He has pt at home once a week for 1 hour and speech/feeding therapy once a week for 30 minutes.
I, too, am nervous about my son over heating!

If anyone has any ideas for Laura that has dealt with their childs helmet in the summer time. Please post here as well.
Hi Laura,
Thanks so much for your post! I understand your concern regarding the helmet and the heat. Fortunately, our Alexandra had her helmet in the winter, so we werent as affected by that. However, if you see hot spots or anything on Nicholas's face or head, just monitor it a bit. Just like anything we do in our lives, we have to adjust to existing conditions. Nicholas will adjust much faster than you will ever imagine. It will be more difficult on you, at times ,than it is on him. Please stop back and ask questions throughout your journey. If you havent already. Please send us a picture of Nicholas in his helmet so we can post it on our site. You can send the picture to photos@alexandrasphate.org. best of luck and we hope to hear from you soon.

I know most parents take their childs helmet off for an hour or so in the morning for cleaning and such, but due to the heat and moisture we take it off both in the morning and about 3pm. This gives Alex a bit of a break. My rule of thumb is if his little cheeks are all red, its time to take a break. We also run the water in the kitchen sick and let his feet dangle in that for awhile and let him cool down for a couple. And always keep him in the aircondition if the temp is 85 plus. Yeah, summertime is not the eaisiest time for wearing the helmet.
